“Tom Sheehan is an artist you need to know about!”
—John Schoenberger, Radio & Records
John Schoenberger, AAA editor of Radio & Records, put it best: “Tom Sheehan is an artist that you need to know about.”
Critics have said that Tom Sheehan is to popular music what director Oliver Stone is to film. Tom’s evocative songs find their roots in the news, human relationships and the world around us. His writing is emotional and insightful, casting new light on familiar events, people and issues. And while certainly not the first to fuse social commentary with rock music, Tom does so from a unique perspective—an insightful point of view tempered by experience.
His debut record, “Where You Are,” (1998) spawned two Adult Album Alternative and Major College radio hits “Die Like Elvis” and the etheral title track which grew out of the O.J. Simpson murder trial. Together with the ballad “City of Angels,” all three songs received significant airplay in America and Europe.
Tom’s sophomore release, “Film at Eleven” (2000), found airplay on over 350 AAA, A/C and major college radio stations and included songs whose topics ranged from the Kennedy assassination to the Columbine High School tragedy, alcoholism to date rape. Among the songs on “Film at Eleven” is “It’s Only Love,” which charted at #17 on CMJ and #34 on the R&R Adult/Contemporary chart and earned “#2 Most Added” in its first week of release at A/C.
His subsequent release, “Confession in the Back Room” (2006), was a breakthrough for Tom. Recorded completely remotely in Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, New Jersey and Reading, Confession brings together 12 outstanding players and fifteen songs into a smokey, liquor-infused bar band setting. The results are electric, and the project so unique that it was twice featured in Recording Magazine.
Along the way, the trade press has heaped critical praise on Sheehan. The radio industry’s Gavin, says, “Sheehan’s cinematic approach...is what makes it stand out.” Totallyadult / Album Network says “Just like the nightly news, Tom Sheehan delivers.” And Los Angeles Music Connection says “Tom Sheehan is our mouthpiece…it rocks!”
He is most at home, though, as a writer...an artist with a gifted vision...and a unique view of the world...an artist that you need to know about.
Film at eleven.
